Press Release Sunday 16th November 2008 – Printed
in The Sunday Business Post
- System Dynamics grows on the back of acquisitions
Dublin-based software firm System Dynamics saw its turnover grow
by 33 per cent last year on the back of organic growth and new revenues
from recent acquisitions.
According to its most recently filed accounts, turnover rose to €21million
in the year ending December 31 2007, up from €15.6 million
a year earlier.
The company booked a €504,000 profit for the year, which was
up from the €305,000 recorded in 2006 and it now has accumulated
profits of €1.6 million.
Tony McGuire, managing director of System Dynamics, said
that the company was extremely pleased with its performance
for the year.
Roughly €1million of the additional revenues recorded in 2007
stemmed from its 2006 acquisition of Software Resources, with the
balance accounted for by organic growth.
The company should further grow revenues this year from
its acquisition of software company Systima in May.
While McGuire signalled at the time that System Dynamics
was in the market for further acquisitions this year, he
said that the banking crisis had put paid to that ambition
for the moment.
‘‘The issue is access to capital, so we will be keeping our
powder dry and postponing any M&A activity for the moment,” he
said.
However, McGuire hoped the firm wouldn’t have to wait long
before re-entering the market as he was beginning to see a lot
of opportunities.
According to the company’s directors’ report, System
Dynamics has a long-term goal of becoming the largest indigenous
IT Services company by 2010. McGuire said that it was already the
largest indigenous firm and was now targeting its multinational
competitors in Ireland. He believes that the company is already
in the top ten and his ambition was to break into the top five
by 2010.
‘‘The downturn is shaking the market up a bit and the numbers
are changing all the time,” he said, referring
to the overall size of the market in which the company
operates.
At present, the best source of growth for the company
was in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software,
which he said allowed users to streamline their processes
and speed decision making.
While some companies, banks in particular, were scaling
completely back on IT spending at present, he said a similar
proportion were continuing to invest since they were anxious
about remaining competitive in the current tough economic
climate.

- System Dynamics wins Boylesports deal
Oracle Business Accelerators lead to significant savings in
implementation time and cost.
Irish Bookmaker, Boylesports has signed contracts worth in excess €400K
with System Dynamics, Ireland’s largest indigenous supplier
of IT Solutions and Services, for the implementation of Oracle
Financials, Purchasing and i-Procurement. Boylesports employs over
750 staff and operates bookmaking business in the UK and Ireland
spanning over 130 shops, as well as online and Fon-A-Bet operations.
System Dynamics, a member of Oracle PartnerNetwork, will
use Oracle Business Accelerators to deliver a tailored Oracle E-Business
Suite implementation, which will be rolled out over a four month
period commencing immediately. The solution will provide the group
with access to real time financial information across its entire
business.
The implementation provides Boylesports scalability and flexibility
as it grows its business. It will provide the group with greater
control of expenditure across all its cost functions while simplifying
and centralising its key accounting functions to achieve greater
efficiencies and cost savings.
Working with Oracle Business Accelerators allows System Dynamics
to ensure the rapid and seamless implementation of leading business
process standards across the group. The approach enables the roll-out
of a fully integrated solution appropriate to the needs of Boylesports
while achieving significant savings in terms of speed of implementation
and overall project costs.
Michael Bent, Head of Finance, Boylesports, said: “We quickly
realised that the proposed Oracle solution was greatly superior to
other products on the market, with added efficiencies and cost savings
that far outweigh the initial investment. The calibre of the partnership
offered by System Dynamics and Oracle was a clear deciding factor
for us in light of our expansion plans and requirements for a future-proofed
system.”
“In the present economic climate, managing costs have become very
critical to Boylesports as it expands its operation in the UK and Ireland.
The solution provides us with the drill down capability to analyse exactly
what is being spent across all areas of our business. We can now use this information
to ensure the best prices are negotiated with our various suppliers,” added
Mr Bent.
Nigel Sylvester, Corporate Account Director, System Dynamics: “By
using Oracle Business Accelerators, we are able to reduce the time
and cost of the implementation, while tailoring the solution to the
specific needs of Boylesports and provide the right mix of industry
functionality and best-practice business processes. The approach
allows us to deliver a fully configured and integrated environment
for Boylesports’ business over a much shorter time period,
while achieving cost savings of around 30 percent compared with the
traditional approach to implementing this software.”
Sylvester went on to say “this business is a significant
win for System Dynamics, and underlines a growing trend whereby household
name companies in Ireland are trusting System Dynamics as an independent,
value for money Irish IT Solutions
Partner, in preference to multinational system integrators”.

Press Release Sunday 11th May 2008 – Printed
in The Sunday Business Post
- System Dynamics eyes another acquisition in expansion
plan
System Dynamics, the software firm that last week bought software
company Systima, intends to make one more significant acquisition
before the end of the year.
Tony McGuire, chief executive of System Dynamics, said the company
had a ‘‘clear set of targets in mind’’ for
further expansion and indicated that its next deal could be in
the professional services sector, an area System Dynamics recently
moved into with the creation of a new business unit.
‘‘What we are looking for is something to supplement the business
we are developing,” he said.
McGuire declined to state how much System Dynamics paid for Systima,
citing confidentiality clauses in the contract, but it is believed
the deal was at the smaller end of the scale for the sector.
The acquisition had been funded from the company’s own
internal resources.
McGuire said the motivation behind the deal was Systima’s
expertise in integrating Oracle based enterprise applications.
Dublin-based System Dynamics has been growing in this area since
it acquired Software Resources in 2006 and is now an Oracle partner
in application development.
The deal ‘rounded out’ its offering in this sector.
Five Systima staff will move over to System Dynamics. One of
the founders - Tony Field - will stay with the firm, while the
other - Justin Corry - will leave.
McGuire said that the acquisition would help boost System Dynamics’ turnover
beyond €24 million this year.
The most recently filed accounts for the firm indicate that turnover
grew from €12.3 million to €16 million in the year
ending December 31, 2006.
The company booked a profit of €305,000 during the year, bringing
accumulated profits to €1 million. McGuire said the firm had
grown strongly during 2007 and turnover was up to €21.5
million during the year. ‘‘We saw a very significant amount
of organic growth during 2007, with a small benefit coming in from
the 2006 acquisition of Software Resources,” he said.
Staff headcount was now approaching 180, up from 120 a year ago.
The high intake of new people was mostly accounted for by the opening
of the new Professional Services division, McGuire said.
McGuire said he believed the economic climate would prompt some
consolidation in the indigenous software sector, since some firms
would struggle to remain competitive.
‘‘There has been a distinct tightening in IT budgets. We are
seeing longer decision times, decisions postponed and more firms deciding to
do work in-house rather than bring in outside contractors,” he said.
